Core Experiences for Voice Primary Students

  • Festival Choir

Voice students sing in the Festival Choir, which learns, studies, and performs a wide range of repertoire from classical sacred music to contemporary secular choral music. Watch the 2024 Festival Choir.

  • Private Lessons

Two half-hour lessons per week with a collegiate or conservatory-level faculty member. Voice faculty at LSM specialize in a range of vocal styles including opera, musical theatre and vocal jazz – but all are based in a foundation of classical vocal technique.

  • Studio Classes

Join other voice students in studio classes, meeting every-other day. You’ll learn through masterclass seminars, and develop practice and performance techniques together.

  • Recital Performances

You’ll have the opportunity to perform a vocal solo at the end of LSM in a culminating recital.

Optional Voice Experiences

  • Musical Theatre

Receive vocal and performance coaching on the art of musical theatre, performance techniques (working with microphones; stage lighting, etc.) and take part in a culminating performance featuring solo and group numbers from multiple musicals.

  • Chapel Choir

Sing anthems, psalms, and other music to help lead the assembly in LSM’s ongoing worship services.

  • Bach Choir

All LSM students are invited to sing in an annual Bach Cantata performance, usually shared during a festival Eucharist service. This unique experience gives singers an opportunity to learn German pronunciation, baroque-style singing, and share worship music that has lasted the test of time.

Voice FAQ

Can I study or play other instruments in addition to singing?

Yes. In addition to your primary instrument, you can take opportunities to play or study other instruments through private lessons (one secondary lesson per week), or other large ensembles or electives. This is common – many LSM students participate in multiple ensembles or study multiple instruments!
