Core Experiences for Piano Primary Students

  • Private Lessons

Two half-hour lessons per week with a collegiate or conservatory-level faculty member.

  • Studio Classes

Join other piano students in weekly studio classes. Learn through masterclass seminars, and develop practice and performance techniques together.

  • Chamber Music

Piano students are placed in a small ensemble with other students, coached by a faculty member or fellow. Pianists either play four- or six- hand piano duets/trios, or can serve as the collaborative pianist for with a group of student instrumentalists. Chamber music ensemble rehearsals occur every-other day.

  • Large Ensembles

All piano students must take part in one large ensemble (band, choir, or orchestra). This experience is ideal for pianists who also play a solo instrument or sing, or pianists can play percussion. Watch the 2024 Festival Band, the 2024 Festival Choir, or the 2024 Festival Orchestra.

  • Recital Performances

Play a solo and perform with your chamber ensemble at the end of LSM in a culminating recital.

  • Worship Music

Play in an ensemble or as a soloist to share pre-service music, or help lead liturgies, hymnody, or other songs in worship services.

Piano FAQ

Do you work with beginner pianists?

While we work with musicians at a range of levels, our piano track is not designed for beginners. We do offer a Class Piano elective for a select few of our students to receive beginner piano instruction. Otherwise, our lessons and the piano track at LSM is designed for students who have had at least some training or experience.
